About nbpp

Ireland's national biorefinery
infrastructure

Dedicated to scaling bio-based innovation from lab to market.

our story

Building Ireland's
bioeconomy
infrastructure

The National Biorefinery Pilot Plant (NBPP) is Ireland’s first dedicated
open-access and integrated bio-based product and process scale-
up facility. Located at the National Bioeconomy Campus in Lisheen,
Co. Tipperary, NBPP supports the progression of bio-based innovations
from lab-scale validation (TRL 4) to pilot-scale demonstration and
pre-commercial deployment (TRL 8).

NBPP aids technical and financial de-risking of novel lab-scale
innovations. Our suite of technical and business support helps
transform lab-based research into market-ready products and
processes.

Using the symbiotic three E’s of scale-up — Ecosystem, Experts and
Equipment — we leverage collective experiences and create a space
for industrial symbiosis and collaboration, alongside a training and
upskilling hub.
